The town’s origins date back to the time of British colonialism, notably highlighted by the founding of the Champaran Sugar Mill in 1905. However, it is now in ruins and no longer operational.
Chakia is a crucial transit hub for essential materials and food grains, rapidly evolving into a vibrant urban area. It boasts rich cultural heritage with notable temples like Baudhi Devi Mandir, Shree Rani Sati Mandir, Balkhana Devi Mandir, Durga Mandir, Maruti Mandir, and Hanuman Mandir located near the Railway Station.
The town features a network of important roadways, such as Kesaria Road, Sahebganj Road, Station Road, Motihari Road, Hospital Road, and Madhuban Road, which all play a crucial role in local commerce. Prominent residential areas comprise Raniganj Mohalla, Officers’ Colony, Teachers’ Colony, and Shanti Nagar.

Chakia is the closest railway station to the Kesaria Buddha Stupa.
Kesaria Buddha Stupa: This ancient stupa is HUGE and packed with history. Knowing Buddha himself was here makes it super special. It’s a must-see for anyone interested in history and spirituality. Prepare to be impressed by its sheer size and imagine its past glory!
Kesar Nath Mahadev Mandir: A peaceful and charming temple offering a peek into local faith.The Shiva Lingam enshrined here is considered significant and unique for several reasons. Its stone, shape, and the argha (base) surrounding it strongly suggest an ancient origin. It is also known as Batukeshwar Nath.
This Shiva Lingam was unearthed during the excavation of the Kesaria Minor Canal. During the digging, the remnants of an old structure were found. Upon clearing the area, a large Shiva Lingam made of a striking black, polished stone, larger than usual, was revealed, instantly captivating those who saw it. Soon after its discovery, a temple was built, and the worship of the Lingam began.
During the holy month of Shravan, the temple witnesses huge crowds every Monday. Devotees from various places and Nepal come here to offer their prayers.
